Housing assistance for Dominican athlete Christopher Melenc号

Overview

Dominican sprinter Christopher Melenciano and his mother, Marisol Reyes, have secured new housing through the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED). The move follows a period of instability where the athlete and his mother were forced to temporarily relocate to Villa Mella due to severe leaks and poor conditions in their previous rented residence in Capotillo.

The new apartment was delivered by Housing Minister Jean Luis Rodríguez and Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz as part of a presidential commitment to support the athlete. Minister Cruz stated the housing serves as “recognition for Melenciano’s sporting achievements.”

Melenciano, a prominent figure in Dominican athletics with a hearing impairment, has achieved significant international success, including winning gold and silver medals at the 2022 Deaflympics and setting world records for deaf athletes in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. With his housing situation stabilized, he is now focusing on upcoming athletic commitments, including the Deaf World Championships in Brazil and qualifying competitions for Lima 2027.
