ADP teachers protest across Dominican Republic over school conditions

The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) has launched a series of nationwide protests and mobilizations ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. Demonstrations have occurred in various regions, including Santiago, San Juan, Puerto Plata, and the National District, as educators demand improvements to the country's educational system.

Key grievances cited by the union include deteriorating school infrastructure, such as lack of water in bathrooms and destroyed mobile classrooms, as well as a shortage of teachers and support staff. Teachers are also demanding the payment of pending performance evaluation incentives and retroactive payments, alongside more transparent hiring processes.

Despite the protests, ADP leadership has stated that teachers intend to fulfill their responsibilities by attending classes, but they warned that they will continue to demonstrate in the streets until structural deficiencies and administrative delays are addressed by the Ministry of Education.
