Dominican transit agencies weigh extending fines suspension and expanding municipal penalties

The Agencia Nacional de Tránsito (ANT) in the Dominican Republic announced an extension to the deadline for suspending the validation of fines, saying the change is intended to guarantee the continuity of administrative procedures.

Separately, the Instituto Nacional de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (Intrant) floated a plan that could translate into more fines and make municipalities a channel to collect them from drivers. Intrant director Milton Morrison suggested that alcaldías assume a role in enforcement, a move that would heighten penalties amid persistent traffic chaos affecting many people in Santo Domingo.
