Dominican athletes brace for 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo
Volleyball libero Brenda Castillo will compete in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, aiming for a fifth consecutive gold medal after winning titles in 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2023. Shot‑put specialist Rosa Angélica Ramírez, the 2023 regional champion, also seeks to defend her title at the same Games.
Cuban athletes are preparing for the event as well. Rowers Leduar Suárez, Reidy Cardona and Loraidis Echevarría returned from altitude training in Mexico and will join the Cuban delegation in the Dominican capital. In Guantánamo, authorities marked the homes of the 25 Caribbean athletes attending the Games, including shooter Jorge Grau Potrilla.
Cuban swimmer Andrea Becali set a new national record in the 100‑metre freestyle (short‑course) in Brisbane, a performance highlighted as a key build‑up to the Santo Domingo Games. In the Dominican Republic, Banco Popular is sponsoring a photo exhibition on Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino, celebrating her achievements ahead of the regional competition.
