Julio Iglesias: Spanish prosecutors support investigation into abuse claims

Spanish prosecutors have reversed their previous stance and issued a report stating that the Audiencia Nacional has the jurisdiction to investigate a complaint against singer Julio Iglesias. The case involves allegations from two former employees—a domestic worker and a physiotherapist—who claim they were victims of sexual assault, labor exploitation, and mistreatment in 2021 while working at the singer's properties in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

In January, the Public Ministry had dismissed an initial complaint on the grounds that Spanish courts lacked jurisdiction because the alleged events occurred abroad and the parties involved did not reside in Spain. However, following a new complaint filed in September, prosecutors now argue that the Audiencia Nacional, which specializes in complex cases and crimes committed by Spaniards abroad, is competent to review the matter.

Julio Iglesias, 83, has denied all allegations, describing them as 'absolutely false' and stating he has never abused or disrespected any woman. The decision now rests with Judge Antonio Piña, who must determine whether to formally initiate a judicial investigation into the claims.
