Donald Duke calls for technology-driven electoral system in Nigeria
Donald Duke, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and former governor of Cross River State, has called for the implementation of a technology-driven electoral system in Nigeria. Duke argued that such a system would allow citizens to cast, verify, and track their ballots, thereby increasing transparency.
Duke criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a “monumental failure” that has failed to inspire public confidence. He noted that widespread distrust in the electoral process has led to voter disenchantment, with many Nigerians abstaining from voting due to the belief that their participation does not influence election outcomes.
Contrasting the current manual processes with existing technological advancements, Duke pointed out that while Nigerians successfully use electronic systems for financial transactions, the voting process remains susceptible to manipulation. He stated that available technology could ensure every vote is both counted and independently verified.
