Donald Duke, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, has begun outlining his political platform and critiquing Nigeria’s current governance.

Duke initially addressed past political controversies, alleging that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai had circulated rumors claiming Duke was an operative for the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad. Regarding his future administration, Duke proposed a platform focused on meritocracy, economic reform, and moving away from political patronage. He suggested that economic success should be measured by employment rates and income per capita rather than government revenue.

Duke has intensified his critique of Nigeria’s democratic performance, arguing that 27 years of civilian rule have failed to deliver “democracy dividends.” He suggested that citizens might have been better off under military governance, noting that fundamental issues such as unemployment, electrification, infrastructure deficiency, and healthcare decline remain unresolved. He specifically cited the increasing number of children out of school as evidence that the country has not improved since 1999.

Addressing electoral integrity, Duke called for a technology-driven electoral system that allows citizens to cast, verify, and track ballots to increase transparency. He described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a “monumental failure” that has failed to inspire public confidence. Duke noted that while Nigerians successfully use electronic systems for financial transactions, the voting process remains susceptible to manipulation, leading to widespread voter disenchantment.
