Trump has characterized the engagement as a ‘military conflict’ or ‘small potatoes’ rather than a war, a stance echoed by Vice President JD Vance, who suggested that major combat operations had largely concluded.

Despite the administration’s efforts to minimize the conflict ahead of the November midterm elections, the engagement has resulted in the deaths of 18 U.S. service members and contributed to a spike in global energy prices.
