Donald Trump claims Google rejected proposal to rename ocean

Donald Trump claimed during a campaign rally in Georgia that he proposed renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to ‘Trump Ocean,’ but was rejected by Google. According to Trump, representatives from the tech giant expressed indignation, stating that oceans cover many different countries and such a change was not possible.

Trump noted that he had sent a map labeled ‘Trump Ocean’ to the company, though it remains unconfirmed if this specific exchange occurred. He clarified that he was joking this time, but added that it was not his worst idea.

This follows previous administrative actions where Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’ via executive order in 2025, and Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ in August. Google Maps has already implemented those specific changes for users within the United States.
