Donald Trump demands Iran surrender amid stalled negotiations
U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran surrender to end the ongoing war between the two nations, as diplomatic negotiations remain at an impasse. Speaking to Fox News, Trump stated that Iran should ‘raise the white flag of surrender.’
A provisional agreement signed in June, which called for the ‘immediate and permanent end of military operations on all fronts,’ has effectively collapsed. While the memorandum intended for both nations to negotiate a definitive deal regarding issues such as Iran’s nuclear program within 60 days, that deadline has passed without a resolution.
In a separate development, tensions have risen regarding Oman’s role in mediating negotiations to restore commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait is a critical maritime route, previously handling 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies before attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran in February. Trump warned Oman against intervening, stating, ‘If Oman interferes, we will bomb them.’
