Donald Trump discusses potential military action and drug claims regarding Iran

Donald Trump has made controversial statements regarding Iran, including claims that Iranian nuclear facilities targeted by the U.S. last year were also used as drug manufacturing plants. Experts, such as James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, have expressed surprise at these claims, noting that there is no prior evidence or credible reports suggesting the Fordo facility was used for drug production.

Separately, Trump stated that the U.S. must decide whether to pursue an easy or difficult path regarding Iran, describing the country as heavily damaged. He suggested that the U.S. might have to choose between reaching an agreement or using military force, stating, “Maybe we blow them up. We have to decide. Blow them up, or make a deal; the time will come.”

In response to regional tensions, senior U.S. cabinet members, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reportedly held an undisclosed meeting at Camp David to discuss next steps regarding Iran and the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that the U.S. message to Iran is that it “never, ever will have a nuclear weapon,” warning that the country must abandon its nuclear ambitions or face more difficult consequences.
