Texas Senate race: Republicans surge with $51M ad buy for Ken Paxton

The Texas Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico has intensified due to a massive surge in Republican spending and shifting poll numbers. While Talarico recently held a four-point lead in an AARP poll with 48 percent support to Paxton’s 44 percent, Republican outside groups have responded with significant financial investments.

Texas PAC, linked to the Senate Leadership Fund, has reserved approximately $51 million for advertising across major Texas media markets. This follows a trend of increased GOP involvement, including $10 million from Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC and $13.8 million from the Senate Leadership Fund. Additionally, Elon Musk’s America PAC has contributed over $2.6 million toward voter contact.

Despite the financial influx, the race remains highly competitive. Donald Trump has provided both support and criticism, endorsing Paxton while frequently mocking his appearance and mannerisms. Talarico has leveraged these insults, turning Trump’s ‘Talafreako’ nickname into a top-selling campaign merchandise item.
