Donald Trump Files Emergency Motion to Block BBC Subpoena for Trust Financial Records

President Donald Trump’s legal team filed an emergency motion in federal court to halt a July 27 order that requires him to turn over detailed financial records of the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The order, issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett in Miami, mandated the production of tax returns, ownership documents and statements for roughly 400 business entities, with an initial deadline in early August and weekly submissions thereafter. Trump’s lawyers argue the BBC’s request is politically motivated, seeking to “exploit” the lawsuit over a BBC documentary that spliced his Jan. 6, 2021 speech.

The motion, filed one day before the court‑imposed deadline, asks U.S. District Judge Roy Altman to freeze the order while Trump appeals. The lawsuit claims the documentary, titled “Trump, A Second Chance,” damaged the value of Trump’s brand and properties, though the complaint has been narrowed to focus on reputational harm. The BBC denies any wrongdoing, including accusations that it used AI to alter the speech.
