Donald Trump halts negotiations with Iran, signals increased pressure

Donald Trump has signaled a halt to negotiations with Iran, stating that current discussions are a “waste of time.” According to U.S. officials, Trump has instructed senior administration representatives to suspend negotiations as the government reevaluates its approach and prepares to increase pressure on Tehran to secure better concessions.

Trump asserted that a maritime blockade of Iran remains active and suggested that the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz may diminish in the future due to the construction of new pipelines. While acknowledging Iran’s combat capabilities, he characterized the nation’s structure as largely “hollow.”

The administration is considering implementing much harsher sanctions against Iran. In response, Iranian officials, including the Speaker of the Parliament, have accused the United States of using increased pressure to extract more concessions, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has denied any secret negotiations or behind-the-scenes communication with the U.S.
