Donald Trump prioritizes economic sanctions over military strikes against Iran
President Donald Trump has indicated a shift toward prioritizing economic pressure over immediate military action regarding Iran. In recent statements, Trump described Iran as “completely bankrupt,” noting that the country faces inflation exceeding 300% and is unable to pay its soldiers.
Trump outlined a strategy focused on leveraging economic instability to achieve U.S. objectives. He emphasized that the United States maintains “absolute control” over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global maritime route for oil trade. While he has not ruled out military strikes, he is currently emphasizing the impact of sanctions, which have recently targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Addressing domestic concerns regarding military readiness, Trump noted that ammunition stockpiles are low, attributing this to previous administrations' spending on Ukraine. He stated that while the U.S. continues to provide aid, the European Union should bear more of the financial burden for supporting Ukraine.
