Donald Trump announces Iran nuclear freeze and US farm export plan
President Donald Trump declared that Iran has agreed never to acquire a nuclear weapon and that the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened following the June 17 memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. As part of the agreement, the administration proposed using $11‑12 billion of frozen Iranian assets to purchase American wheat, corn and soybeans for Iran, a move rejected by Tehran which insists it will control any use of the funds.
Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have taken slightly different public tones on Israel’s actions in Lebanon, but the White House maintains that the administration presents a united front, stating “there is one camp – President Trump’s camp – and the entire administration is fully behind the President’s efforts to ensure Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon.”
The deal aims to end the recent US‑Iran conflict, reopen critical shipping lanes, and open a new market for US farmers, while internal policy debates over Israel‑Lebanon remain underlined by divergent viewpoints within the administration.
