Donald Trump sets condition for summit with Vladimir Putin
US President Donald Trump has stated that he is prepared to hold a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but only when there is a readiness to finalize a peace agreement regarding the war in Ukraine. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump indicated that while a meeting could be arranged quickly, he prefers to wait until the conflict is nearing its end.
Trump noted that improved relations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine would be beneficial for the business world. He also identified the deep personal enmity between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a significant obstacle to reaching a deal. Trump confirmed he remains in regular contact with both leaders.
In response to these proposals, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked that any summit would only be meaningful if it served to formalize existing agreements, rather than acting as a venue for initial negotiations. Peskov emphasized that an agreement regarding Ukraine could not be a ‘simple deal’.
