Donald Trump suggests U.S.-Iran negotiations could resume

U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that peace negotiations with Iran could resume at some point, provided Tehran completely abandons its nuclear weapons program. Trump stated, “They have to get rid of it completely. No nuclear weapons. Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.”

Despite the potential for future talks, the 60-day negotiation period established under a previous memorandum of understanding has concluded without a comprehensive agreement. Tensions remain high following a series of military escalations, including U.S. strikes against Iranian targets in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in the region.

While Trump maintains that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and functioning normally, the regional security situation is volatile. Recent reports highlight ongoing maritime instability, including Houthi blockades in the Red Sea and attacks on shipping. The U.S. administration has also signaled a potential shift toward “economic warfare” to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities, even if it results in higher fuel prices for American citizens.
