Donald Trump urges Congress to end birthright citizenship after SCOTUS decision

Trump called the decision “too bad for the Country” and said he will push legislation in Congress to overturn it, asserting that a constitutional amendment is not required. House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed the disappointment and suggested a constitutional amendment could be the only long‑term solution.

In a separate interview, Trump said the Court’s ruling in the Trump v. Slaughter case, which restores the president’s authority to dismiss independent‑agency officials without cause, “more than makes up” for the birthright citizenship setback. The president emphasized that the Slaughter decision strengthens executive power, while his push to repeal birthright citizenship remains a legislative priority.
