Donald Trump urges Federal Reserve to keep rates low amid strong job gains

President Donald Trump criticised the prospect of a Federal Reserve rate increase, saying there is “no reason to raise rates” after a strong jobs report that added 172,000 jobs and kept unemployment at 4.3%. He argued that higher rates would punish the country and suggested the Fed should even lower rates.

Trump highlighted the appointment of new Fed chair Kevin Warsh, urging him to “do what he wants,” while continuing pressure on former chair Jerome Powell. His comments came ahead of the Fed’s first meeting under Warsh, as markets anticipate a possible quarter‑point hike later in the year.

Analysts noted that the president’s stance could influence investor sentiment, particularly in the cryptocurrency market, where lower rates are seen as supportive for risk‑ier assets.
