Donald Trump threatens Iran with massive missile retaliation
U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that “1,000 missiles are primed and ready to launch” against the Islamic Republic of Iran and that “thousands more would follow immediately” if Tehran attempted to assassinate him. He said orders had already been issued and that the U.S. military was prepared, willing and capable to “completely destroy all regions of Iran for a period of one year, with the option of extension.”
The threat came after reports that Israeli intelligence had warned Washington of a possible Iranian plot to kill Trump, and after public chants at the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for Trump’s death. In the same week, the United States resumed airstrikes on Iranian targets following Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and Trump declared the fragile cease‑fire between the two sides “over.” He also announced new sanctions targeting individuals linked to Iran’s senior leadership.
These statements have heightened diplomatic tensions, with Iran’s foreign minister insisting Tehran has kept its side of the recent cease‑fire agreement, while the United States insists the pact is dead and that further escalation is possible if Iran continues hostile actions.
