DoorDash secures FAA certification to launch drone delivery service

DoorDash has received Part 135 air carrier certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, clearing the regulatory hurdle needed to operate a commercial drone delivery service. The company will roll out its in‑house program, DoorDash Air, built by DoorDash Labs, with drones handling short‑range orders while human couriers continue to serve longer trips. DoorDash says the drones will work alongside its existing delivery workforce, allowing couriers to focus on quick, nearby deliveries and earn more. The rollout will begin with limited pilot tests, and further approval for beyond‑visual‑line‑of‑sight flights will be required before wider deployment. DoorDash will maintain its current partnerships with Wing and Flytrex as it expands its autonomous logistics ecosystem.
