In late July 2026 DoorDash announced that it had obtained Part 135 air carrier certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, clearing the key regulatory hurdle for its in‑house drone delivery program, DoorDash Air. The first announcement highlighted the development of the service by DoorDash Labs, the plan to build its own aircraft and ground infrastructure, and the intention to integrate drone deliveries for mid‑range orders of three to five miles into the consumer app while continuing to work with existing partners Wing and Flytrex.

A follow‑up notice two days later reiterated the certification and outlined the next steps: limited pilot tests will begin, and additional approval for beyond‑visual‑line‑of‑sight flights will be required before broader deployment.
