Doppelmayr Panamá Corp. awarded San Miguelito cable car contract

Doppelmayr Panamá Corp. has been awarded the contract to construct the San Miguelito cable car system in Panama. The project, valued at approximately $255.16 million, aims to enhance urban mobility and innovation.

According to Alex Quiroz, Project Director of Metro de Panamá, the system is expected to begin operations in early 2029, provided that contractual negotiations and official approvals proceed as planned. Once the order to proceed is issued, the execution phase is estimated to take 30 months.

The 6.6-kilometer cable car system will feature six stations—two in the Panama district and four in San Miguelito—and will connect with Line 2 of the Panama Metro via the Cincuentenario station. The system is designed to transport 2,800 passengers per hour in each direction at a speed of six meters per second. Its service area will include sectors such as Río Abajo, Monte Oscuro, Samaria, Valle de Urracá, Mano de Piedra, and Torrijos Carter.
