San Miguelito cable car project in Panama
Overview
Doppelmayr Panamá Corp. has been awarded a contract to construct a 6.6-kilometer cable car system in San Miguelito, Panama. The project, valued at approximately $255.16 million, is intended to improve urban mobility by connecting six stations to Line 2 of the Panama Metro at the Cincuentenario station.
Following the initial award to Doppelmayr, Dominican firm Malespín Constructora has been appointed as the civil works contractor. Malespín Constructora will handle the execution of foundations, stations, and support towers, marking its first large-scale public infrastructure project outside the Dominican Republic.
Project officials estimate that once the order to proceed is issued, the execution phase will take 30 months. If contractual negotiations and approvals proceed as planned, the system is expected to begin operations in early 2029.
