Dora Bakoyannis warns Turkish draft law cracks trust, raises Greece‑Turkey tension

Former foreign minister and committee chair Dora Bakoyannis told a conference on the “Blue Homeland” that a newly proposed Turkish draft law represents “undoubtedly a breach of trust, perhaps the most important thing, and an escalation in tension.” She stressed that Greece has no aggressive intentions toward Turkey and that its defence would be limited to responding to an attack. Bakoyannis highlighted Greece’s strong alliances, citing the Souda base, the Alexandroupoli port and its energy role, and argued that flexible, multilateral foreign policy is essential. She also dismissed expectations of NATO naval escorts through the Strait of Hormuz and called the possible German Patriot missile deployment to Turkey a “logical move.” The remarks referenced past talks on the Prespa Agreement and noted the emergence of two new political parties in Greece, warning that political fragmentation could complicate policy decisions.
