Dormition Cathedral in Kyiv damaged in Russian attack

A massive Russian strike on Kyiv killed at least 11 people in Ukraine and set fire to the historic Dormition Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating from the 11th century. The blaze damaged the cathedral's roof and façade, prompting a large firefighting response. Ukrainian officials said the attack deliberately targeted the cultural monument, while Russian defence officials blamed a malfunctioning Patriot air‑defence missile.

Separate drone attacks in the Russian city of Tula killed three people, and Ukrainian rescue teams in Kharkiv lost five firefighters. The attacks left dozens injured, knocked out power for over 140,000 Kyiv residents, and drew condemnation from UNESCO and international leaders.
