Doseo app helps consumers identify food additives

Doseo, a new Portuguese application, aims to help consumers decipher food labels by identifying additives and explaining their implications for food safety. The app addresses the difficulty of understanding technical names and codes used on product packaging.

Users can search for products by name, browse categories, or scan barcodes using their smartphone camera. The platform includes a database of over 17,000 products from major supermarkets. It allows users to compare products within the same category to find options with fewer additives and maintain a food diary.

To provide safety insights, Doseo cross-references ingredient lists with European Union legal limits (Regulation (EU) No 1333/2008) and the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) levels established by scientific entities such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The app provides personalized information, such as how many portions of a product can be safely consumed per day based on an individual's weight.
