Huixquilucan cuts high‑impact crimes by 13% in early 2026
The municipality of Huixquilucan reported a 13.16 % decline in high‑impact crimes during January‑May 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to the State Security Secretariat. The drop includes a 62.3 % reduction in vehicle theft, 48.7 % in home burglary, 34.6 % in public‑transport robbery and 34.4 % in pedestrian robbery, while intentional injuries fell 15 %.
Mayor Romina Contreras attributed the results to a coordinated security strategy involving the municipal police, the State of Mexico’s security agency and the National Guard, reinforced tactical operations across the three municipal zones, and the certification of 99 % of local officers with the Unique Police Certificate (CUP). The decline adds to a cumulative 44 % reduction in overall crime recorded between 2022 and 2025, positioning Huixquilucan among the safest municipalities in the state.
The municipal administration pledged to maintain funding for personnel, equipment and training to further professionalise the police force and sustain the downward trend in crime.
