Double Fine sets $100 million Kickstarter goal for Brütal Legend 2

Double Fine Productions has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its Amnesia Fortnight 2026 event, which includes a highly ambitious stretch goal: developing a sequel to the 2009 cult classic, Brütal Legend, if the campaign raises $100 million.

Following its recent separation from Microsoft and Xbox, the studio has returned to independent status. This transition was accompanied by layoffs affecting approximately 25% of its workforce. The current crowdfunding effort aims to provide operational support and funding for experimental prototypes while the studio seeks financing for larger-scale projects.

The Amnesia Fortnight tradition involves a two-week period where developers pitch and prototype new game ideas. For this edition, the community will vote on which concepts to advance. While the $100 million target for Brütal Legend 2 is considered nearly impossible by industry standards, the studio has clarified in its FAQ that the commitment is serious.
