Double Fine revives Amnesia Fortnight following Xbox departure

Double Fine Productions has announced the revival of its “Amnesia Fortnight” creative event for 2026, following the studio's recent departure from Microsoft and its transition back to independence. The event is scheduled to launch on August 31, featuring a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to support the initiative.

As part of the process, the studio will host an online Game Jam where developers create various game prototypes. Kickstarter backers will be able to vote on these concepts, ultimately selecting four prototypes to be developed further, with one final choice being selected to become a complete “small game.”

The initiative aims to extend the studio's financial runway and strengthen community engagement. The development process will be documented in a video series by 2 Player Productions. This event, which was paused in 2019 following the acquisition by Microsoft, previously led to the creation of titles such as “Halloween Havoc” and “Spacebase DF-9.”
