65‑year‑old Italian suspect detained for double homicide in Aigio, Greece

Police have detained a 65‑year‑old Italian man, the partner of a 54‑year‑old woman, on suspicion of murdering her and her 26‑year‑old son in their home in Loggo, Aigio. The victims were found with extensive knife wounds – the mother suffered more than 20 stab wounds and the son sustained six stab wounds plus a gunshot to the head from a flobert‑type firearm.

The suspect repeatedly proclaimed his innocence, stating he was asleep and only discovered the bodies later. Investigators, however, have gathered several incriminating items: a kitchen knife, the flobert pistol, a shirt with blood‑stained traces, fresh‑washed underwear, and signs of struggle such as bruises on his hands. No signs of forced entry or third‑party presence were detected, and an odor of alcohol was noted on the suspect, though he did not appear intoxicated.

Motives under consideration include a possible financial dispute over property sales, jealousy, or fear of abandonment, as the son had recently returned from Germany and may have wanted to relocate his mother abroad. Laboratory analyses of the weapons, clothing and biological traces are pending, and the suspect is scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday, 12 June.
