Dourados extends health emergency amid chikungunya outbreak

The municipality of Dourados in Brazil has extended its health emergency status for another 90 days under Decree No. 779, following the earlier declaration of March 20, 2026. Officials cite continued viral circulation, with a test positivity rate around 55% and over 5,200 probable chikungunya cases reported.

At the time of the extension the city recorded 20 patients hospitalized for complications, spread across public and private hospitals, and 14 confirmed deaths linked to the disease, with four additional fatalities under investigation. Health authorities note that, despite a modest drop in notification numbers, the epidemic remains active and requires ongoing emergency measures.

The extension aims to sustain current response actions and the work of temporarily hired health professionals while the outbreak persists in the Greater Dourados area.
