Downburst Storm Hits Nitra, Slovakia Causing Wind Damage

A powerful downburst struck the city of Nitra in western Slovakia on Monday afternoon, producing wind gusts up to 25.7 m/s (about 90 km/h). The sudden, descending air column generated strong, spreading winds that broke tree branches, damaged roofs and electrical lines, flooded streets, and caused drainage problems.

Local authorities reported infrastructure damage and disrupted traffic, while residents described the event as a rapid, tornado‑like gust. Meteorological services noted the storm originated from a larger system that moved southeast from Bratislava, intensifying as it approached Nitra.
