DP World marks 20 years of operations at Peru's Port of Callao
DP World is marking 20 years of operations at the Port of Callao in Peru, following approximately US$ 1 billion in investments since 2006. The terminal has become a critical trade hub, handling roughly 60% of Peru’s containerized cargo and connecting agricultural exports like grapes and avocados to markets in Europe, North America, and Asia.
In 2025, the terminal surpassed 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the first time, a milestone that marks the first time a terminal on South America’s west coast has reached such a volume. Between January and May 2026, the facility handled 48% of Peru’s exports and 61% of its imports.
A US$ 400 million expansion completed in 2024, which included the Bicentennial Pier, increased annual capacity to 2.7 million TEUs. DP World is now planning a further investment of more than US$ 1.3 billion to expand the South Terminal, which would raise annual capacity to 4.3 million TEUs. Recent sustainability efforts include the electrification of the yard crane fleet and the implementation of Latin America’s first dedicated port charging station for electric vehicles.
