DP World global port and logistics expansion
Overview
DP World is pursuing various international infrastructure and logistics expansions. In Egypt, the company met with the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) to discuss broadening its market presence through new terminals, logistics hubs, and integrated supply-chain services, building upon its existing operations at the Ain Sokhna port.
In Peru, the company is marking 20 years of operations at the Port of Callao. Following approximately US$ 1 billion in investments since 2006, the terminal has become a major trade hub, handling roughly 60% of Peru’s containerized cargo. In 2025, the terminal reached a milestone by surpassing 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the first time, a first for a terminal on South America’s west coast. Between January and May 2026, the facility handled 48% of Peru’s exports and 61% of its imports.
A US$ 400 million expansion completed in 2024, which included the Bicentennial Pier, increased annual capacity to 2.7 million TEUs. As part of its sustainability efforts, DP World launched Latin America’s first shore power system at Callao. This allows docked container ships to connect to 100% certified renewable electricity, which is expected to reduce carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by more than 6,300 tonnes annually and reduce nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter by over 90% per vessel call. Approximately 80% of vessels at Pier 3 are already equipped to use this system.
To meet rising demand and support Peru’s agricultural export sector—including blueberries, grapes, mangoes, and asparagus—DP World has proposed a further investment of more than US$ 1.3 billion to expand the South Terminal, aiming to increase annual capacity to 4.3 million TEUs.
