DP World Tour to reinstate LIV Golf fines and suspensions in 2027
The DP World Tour has reportedly begun notifying LIV Golf players that it intends to resume imposing fines and tournament suspensions starting in the 2027 season. This move signals the end of the temporary arrangement that allowed certain LIV players to compete in European Tour events without penalty.
Earlier this year, eight players—including Tyrrell Hatton, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig, and Elvis Smylie—reached agreements to settle outstanding fines and participate in DP World Tour events through 2026. Jon Rahm also secured a separate arrangement that currently allows him to participate in the 2027 European Ryder Cup team.
Adding to the uncertainty, LIV Golf CEO Scot O’Neil is reportedly seeking investors for a ‘LIV 2.0’ concept for 2027, which may involve lower purses and offering players equity ownership in the league. The DP World Tour has expressed concerns that players becoming equity holders might prioritize LIV Golf commitments over DP World Tour events, potentially complicating future scheduling and eligibility.
