Asian Tour joins PGA and DP World Tours, LIV hit
Overview
In late July 2026, the Asian Tour announced a multi-year partnership with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, extending through 2029. The deal creates a formal development ladder, granting top Asian Tour players direct access to the DP World Tour and the secondary HotelPlanner Tour from the 2027 season, and reinstating co-sanctioned events in Asia. This alliance is intended to broaden the PGA Tour’s international presence and safeguard against competing leagues.
By ending its alliance with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf, the Asian Tour removes a key promotion pathway that LIV had relied on for player progression and world-ranking points, a setback described as a severe operational blow to LIV ahead of its 2027 season. LIV Golf, which had invested $300 million in the Asian Tour’s International Series, now faces challenges in securing investment and establishing promotion pathways. Amidst this, LIV Golf CEO Scot O’Neil is reportedly seeking investors for a ‘LIV 2.0’ concept for 2027, which may involve lower purses and offering players equity ownership.
Further complicating the landscape, the DP World Tour has reportedly begun notifying LIV Golf players that it intends to resume imposing fines and tournament suspensions starting in the 2027 season. This signals the end of temporary arrangements that allowed certain LIV players to compete in European Tour events without penalty. PGA senior vice-president Christian Hardy called the partnership a step toward a unified global talent pathway, while Asian Tour commissioner Cho Minn Thant said the timing was right to collaborate for the benefit of members, fans, and partners.
