DPR RI announces waste-to-energy program for large-scale waste producers

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission II has announced that the government is preparing a large-scale waste management program to convert waste into electricity. This initiative is specifically targeted at regions producing more than 500 tons of waste per day, such as the Banjarbakula landfill in South Kalimantan.

Chairman of Commission II, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, stated that these large-scale projects will involve collaboration between regional heads, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Danantara to enhance national energy security. Currently, the Local Service Delivery Project (LSDP) focuses on regions producing between 100 and 500 tons of waste daily, providing average funding of over Rp100 billion per recipient district or city.

Karsayuda emphasized that LSDP funds are transferred directly to provincial and local government accounts, urging regional leaders in South, Central, and East Kalimantan to manage these budgets responsibly. Members of Commission II also have the authority to propose specific regencies and cities for future LSDP funding stages.
