DPR RI designates Asset Forfeiture Bill as parliamentary initiative
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) officially designated the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) as a parliamentary initiative during a plenary session on October 6, 2026. The legislative body aims to finalize the law by December 15, 2026.
Discussion regarding the Problem Inventory List (DIM) is scheduled to begin during the upcoming session on November 10, 2026. Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III, noted that the drafting process has already included 62 public hearings and eight working visits to various regions to gather input.
During deliberations, Commission III Vice Chairman Ahmad Sahroni emphasized that the bill must be stringent enough to target third parties who benefit from the proceeds of corruption. Sahroni argued that assets held by third parties involved in the flow of criminal funds should be seized first to prevent manipulation and money laundering, leaving the final legal status to be determined by the courts.
