DPR RI pushes for independent Asset Recovery Agency

A member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Soedeson Tandra, is advocating for the Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) to operate as an independent entity outside of law enforcement institutions.

During a hearing with the Attorney General's Office, Tandra argued that independence is essential to ensure the management of seized and confiscated assets remains transparent, accountable, and free from conflicts of interest. He noted that if a single institution holds the authority to determine requirements, conduct valuations, manage auctions, and store assets, it risks becoming “judge over itself.” Tandra suggested that the Attorney General's Office should focus on its primary duties in law enforcement and prosecution, while a specialized independent body handles asset management to bolster public trust.
