DPWH Fast-Tracks Davao Flood Drainage and Highway Repair Projects

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) aims to finish the ₱83.059‑million Dacudao Storm Drainage Project in Davao City by the end of August. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the work, which includes multiple reinforced‑concrete box culverts and cleaning of drainage canals, and said the system will markedly reduce flooding along Dacudao Road. The project is part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Flood Control Master Plan, which still requires additional funding to meet the city’s full storm‑water storage needs.

Separately, all lanes of the Davao‑Bukidnon Highway at the Marahan section have been closed while DPWH conducts round‑the‑clock repairs after a major ground slip collapsed the roadway. Dizon personally inspected the site and ordered emergency stabilization, including the installation of 44 steel sheet piles, to restore the vital inter‑provincial link. Motorists are advised to use designated detour routes until the highway reopens.
