DR Congo opposition rallies against constitutional revision while demanding release of detained analyst
The Alliance for Change (ACH) and the broader Coalition Article 64 (C64) mobilised supporters in Kinshasa on 30 May, denouncing a proposed constitutional revision and describing recent parliamentary moves as a "declaration of war." Party officials urged citizens to join protests against the amendment, which they say could enable a third term for President Félix Tshisekedi.
Separately, a Congolese support committee called for the immediate release of Benjamin Babunga, a historian, pastor and human‑rights activist arrested by Burundi’s intelligence services. The committee highlighted Babunga’s prior threats and argued his detention violates freedom of expression. It appealed to the Burundian authorities and international bodies, including the UN and African Union, to uphold his rights and ensure due process.
