Dr. Hüsam Ebu Safiyye transferred to solitary confinement in Israeli Nefha Prison
Israel detained Dr. Hüsam Ebu Safiyye, director of the Kemal Advan Hospital in northern Gaza, on 27 December 2024 during a raid that captured many hospital staff. On 3 June 2025 the Israeli Prison Authority moved him to solitary confinement at Nefha Prison, citing an appeal against his administrative detention. His family and the Palestinian Prisoners Information Centre say he is being held in “inhumane conditions” and faces deliberate medical neglect that threatens his health. The United Nations, World Health Organization and International Committee of the Red Cross have called for an independent medical examination and urgent treatment. Although his name was included in a Hamas‑Israel cease‑fire release list, Israeli officials have said he will not be freed. On 16 October 2025 an Israeli court extended his administrative detention by another six months.
