Serbia opposition forms new coalition ahead of October elections
Serbian opposition leaders have announced a new coalition for the upcoming October 25 elections. Miroslav Aleksić, president of the Narodni pokret Srbije (NPS), stated that the alliance between NPS, Novo lice Srbije, and Ekološki ustanak will run under the name 'Narodna Srbija' with the electoral list 'Izbor naroda'.
Draga Đilas, leader of the Stranka slobode i pravde (SSP), confirmed that the opposition will compete in two distinct blocks: 'Platforma za evropsku Srbiju' and 'Narodna Srbija'. This split follows disagreements over electoral tactics and party profiles.
In Niš, recent political activities by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) drew criticism. Observers and former officials noted heavy police presence during the party's regional meeting, which some described as restrictive to local citizens. Meanwhile, President Aleksandar Vučić addressed recent student protests at the Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Gymnasium in Novi Sad. He defended the school director following protests over teacher dismissals, instead attributing the students' behavior to a lack of discipline and parental guidance.
