Dragana Antešević laid to rest after fatal Omiš wildfire

Dragana Antešević, a 34-year-old seasonal worker from Kotor Varoš, was laid to rest on Saturday at the New Cemetery in her hometown following her death in a catastrophic wildfire near Omiš, Croatia.

The fire, which broke out on August 13 near Lokve Rogoznice, spread rapidly due to strong winds, covering approximately 1,000 hectares. The blaze caused significant damage, including the destruction of 106 vehicles and 28 houses, with estimated losses reaching roughly 110 million euros.

Antešević was the sole fatality of the incident, while eight others sustained life-threatening injuries. She was working at Villa Charlotte on Balića Ratu when the fire approached. Her sister, Nikolina Slavnić, survived the event and described the harrowing moments when they attempted to flee the flames in a vehicle before being separated by the fire.

Representatives from the City of Omiš and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) attended the funeral to offer support to the family, placing a wreath with the message, “May the angels protect you.” A memorial mass was also held at the Church of St. Peter in Prika to honor her memory.
