Drakeo the Ruler's family settles wrongful death suit with Live Nation

The mother of rapper Drakeo the Ruler, Darrylene Corniel, has reached a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation and several other companies. The legal action stemmed from the fatal stabbing of the artist, born Darrell Caldwell, backstage at the Once Upon a Time music festival in Los Angeles in December 2021.

Corniel, acting as the administrator of her son’s estate, alleged that security measures were inadequate, allowing a violent crowd into a protected backstage area. The settlement includes Live Nation, Hollywood Elite Security, Inc., Black Tide Events, LLC, C3 Presents, Contemporary Services Corporation, and Bobby Dee Presents.

While the specific financial terms remain undisclosed, court filings indicate the agreement is conditional, with the dismissal of the case contingent upon the “satisfactory completion of specified terms to be performed within 45 days.” Although the mother has settled, claims brought by the rapper’s brother and son are reportedly still set for trial next month.
