Drama police solve two fraud cases targeting elderly victims

Police in Drama have solved two separate fraud cases involving the theft of money and jewelry from elderly citizens through telephone deception. In the first incident, which occurred in October 2026, a perpetrator impersonated an electricity company employee to convince a victim to collect cash and valuables. An accomplice later visited the victim's home to collect the items. Authorities intercepted the suspects in Thessaloniki, seizing the stolen goods and the vehicle used in the crime.

The second case, occurring in September 2026, involved a woman who contacted an elderly man under the pretext of helping him receive a government allowance. She successfully persuaded him to gather his gold and valuables for the purported purpose.

Investigations have led to criminal charges against four local individuals for fraud and involvement in a criminal organization. Several accomplices remain unidentified.
