Democratic Republic of the Congo manages security, health, and energy developments

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is managing several critical domestic and international developments. In Kinshasa, the Minister of Justice, Guillaume Ngefa Atondoko Andali, met with the UN Expert Group to discuss the security situation in the eastern DRC, emphasizing the need for accountability and adherence to international law to protect civilian populations.

Simultaneously, African Union facilitators, including former presidents from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Botswana, conducted meetings in Goma. They urged a ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and unhindered humanitarian access following discussions with various actors, including the AFC/M23.

On the economic front, a strategic agreement was signed for the Kalumbila–Kolwezi Interconnector Project (KKIP). This 200-kilometer, 700 MW high-voltage power line, estimated to cost $300 million, aims to link Zambia and the DRC to bolster electricity supply to the Congolese mining sector.

In health and social sectors, the government reported that $2.9 billion has been mobilized internationally to combat the Ebola crisis in eastern DRC. Additionally, the nation commemorated GENOCOST, a day dedicated to remembering victims of conflicts driven by economic resource exploitation.
