DR Congo forces repel M23 and ADF offensives in North and South Kivu
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s armed forces (FARDC) said they have continued to pressurise and contain attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and the M23 rebel coalition in the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri. Vice‑Prime Minister and Defence Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita reported that ADF fighters were forced to split into smaller groups and retreat toward Watsa in Haut‑Uélé and Beni in North Kivu, where they still target civilians. FARDC units, supported by tactical drones and reinforced troop numbers, are said to have repeatedly thwarted M23 offensives on several fronts despite alleged Rwandan drone usage.
Kabombo highlighted the ongoing use of tactical drones, the strengthening of the Alliance Fleuve Congo/M23 coalition, and the professional conduct of Congolese troops in protecting civilians and preserving territorial integrity. He acknowledged that, although the security situation remains precarious with continued civilian displacement and humanitarian needs, the army’s operations are aimed at stabilising the eastern region.
